Bespoke Staircase – Kingston

‘Bespoke Staircase – Kingston’ was a recently completed model 500 staircase supplied to a private client.
What made this model fairly unique is that the customer embedded the zig zag wall stringer into the wall to create a cantilevered effect with the treads coming straight out of the wall!
Our client cut a notch in the existing wall, positioned and bolted the steel stringer in place and carefully plastered up to each tread. To avoid any of the plaster cracking, a small piece of ply was placed on the wall side of the tread before plastering. Once the plastering had been completed, this piece of ply was removed and the small gap was then filled with white silicon to allow a small amount of movement.
This bespoke staircase consisted of 60mm solid oak treads supported by a zig zag stainless steel stringer on the outer side. Above this were some brushed stainless steel newel posts which supported 10mm toughened glass panels. These were topped with a 50mm solid oak handrail. It was a total transformation from the original staircase and it opened up the entire hallway.
The model 500 bespoke staircase is a very versatile system available in a variety of timber, staircase configurations and finishes. Have a look at the links below to see some previous examples of this bespoke staircase.

The Living Staircase

The Living Staircase designed by Paul Cocksedge.

Complete Stair Systems have long been preaching that a staircase is not simply a structure to provide  access to an upper level but an opportunity to make a stunning statement.  A custom made staircase specifically designed for the immediate environment and the individual user is exactly what we strive to achieve.   A staircase that actually enhances your living experience.

The pictures featured show a design concept helical staircase from designer Paul Cocksedge.  He was commissioned to design a central feature for a state-of-the-art new office development in Soho, London.  He realised that removing the centre column from a spiral staircase  would create a large circular void in the middle and he came up with the idea of filling this space with platforms which would act as ‘social places’ for staff to congregate.

“The Living Staircase is actually a combination of staircase and room, of movement and stillness, vertical and horizontal”, said Cocksedge.  “At every turn there is an opportunity to stop and look, smell, read, write, talk, meet, think, and rest. If a staircase is essentially about going from A to B, there is now a whole world living and breathing in the space between the two,” he added.

Well, hats off to you Paul for a truly inspiration design – we might sneak a trip up to Soho ourselves to take a peak when its built.

Sorry – no – we cant offer this I’m afraid.  It is a tad too bespoke for us.  You can however have a look at our conventional spiral staircases and send us an enquiry for a price.

Open Staircase

Open Staircase – Bath

Open Staircase

A picture of a stunning, modern and open staircase supplied to a property developer in Bath.

The staircase is our floating WF structure which only has a wall stringer.  With no stringer on the exposed side, an extremely open and light effect is achieve with the treads appearing to cantilever from the wall and float in mid air!  The WF open staircase is a very popular design for those looking to open up a hall way and allow the passage of light.

This particular model was constructed with Oak parquet timber, brushed stainless steel spindles to the stair and laminated glass panel on the landing.

This staircase was supplied a couple of years ago to a specialist property company in Wiltshire and we received the attached photo this week when they place another order for another WF open staircase.  Same specification only a mirror image.

The WF staircase is available as a straight flight, quarter turn (as featured) and a half turn flight and can be supplied in widths up to 1100mm.  As the timber is structural it can only be produced in hardwood with beech, oak, walnut and ash being the most popular.

Have a look at the links below for further examples of the stunning WF open staircase.

Bespoke Staircase Birmingham

First post of the year and a nice picture  to start things off.

A bespoke staircase supplied to a customer in Birmingham.

The old classic – the model 500 staircase, one this occasion with beech treads (stained) zig zag top and bottom stringers.  The staircase was supplied as part of a major refurbishment and we were specified by the architect who happened to be the son-in-law of the clients!

The model 500 staircase is a bespoke staircase with steel stringers,  Generally supplied with open risers for a light and open feel and with a glass balustrade system to one side.  Spindles and horizontal bars can be supplied but it is glass that rules supreme.

To get a price for your model 500 staircase please let us know the floor to floor height, the shape of the staircase (straight flight / quarter turn / half turn) and the type of treads you would like.  Email info@completestairsystems.co.uk or call 01794 522444.

Modern Staircase – Before and After

A Modern Staircase was installed last week in Farnborough, Hampshire.

As part of a refurbishment, our client needed their current carpeted quarter turn staircase replaced with a stunning  modern staircase, offering light and space.

Instead of maintaining the existing square platform at the turn we introduced winding treads which saved a little space, created an nice angle to the stringers and actually increased the depth of the individual treads – making the flight easier to ascend.

The model 500 modern staircase was selected with steel laser cut stringer and solid oak treads.  The oak treads had an integrated downstand at the front to ensure it met building regulations.  Frameless glass balustrade was supplied down the internal side and this was topped with an oak handrail.

The final floor is to be laid in a couple of weeks and we will be back to take some finished pictures then.

In the meantime if you are looking for a similar modern staircase – please call us on 01794 522444 or email info@completestairsystems.co.uk.

Staircase London – Install Pics

Staircase London.

A few ‘just installed’ pictures of a project of 4 x model 500 bespoke staircases in central London.  I took these on a visit earlier this week after a pig of a drive!

All 4 flights were supplied for the one dwelling in Belgravia, and a stunning dwelling it is too!  We had three 3 quarter turn staircases directly one above another connecting ground to first to second floors.  The forth flight was a half turn connecting the ground and first floors towards the front of property.  Frameless glass balustrade was supplied and fitted to all staircases and across the landing levels. Currently protected whilst the build completes are the 100mm solid Oak treads – with a white wax finish.  I cant wait to see the finished pictures of  ‘staircase london’ – stay posted.
