Spiral Staircase Dorset

Stunning model 71 spiral staircase pictures from a customer in Poole, Dorset!

The model 71 spiral staircase is our most popular bespoke spiral staircase that we supply- for the simply reason it creates a stunning impression.  It is also very versatile with the treads supplied in any hardwood (oak and beech being the most popular) and the riser and going custom made for each project.

This particular spiral staircase was supplied to a customer in Poole to provide access to a new basement conversion.  Passage of light was the key so open risers were a must!   To comply to the 100mm sphere rule we included subtle 8mm thick acrylic riser pieces to reduce the gap without affecting the light passing through.  What is becoming extremely popular with the model 71 spiral staircase is to have curved acrylic or glass panels wrapping around the spiral instead of spindles.  This transforms to the spiral and again maximises the passage of light.

Spiral Staircase - Dorset 3

This spiral staircase was supplied with beech tread with three non slip groves and brushed stainless steel newels and centre column .  Overall diameter 1500mm diameter (ensuring a 600mm clear tread width for regulations) and a floor to floor height of 2800mm with 14 risers.  Also supplied was 3m of matching landing balustrade to complete the stunning addition to the build.

Some pictures of our ever popular Model 71 spiral staircase.  On this occasion supplied to a customer in Aberdeen with the pictures supplied last week.  This particular model had solid Oak treads with modern brushed stainless steel newels, spindles and centre column.  The handrail was also in Oak and supplied in one piece and looked stunning!

The location of this spiral staircase was directly in the hallway of the property so a thoroughfare had to be maintained.   This meant we had to ensure the entry and exit point were in the appropriate positions so to give a clear passageway and to make sure there was sufficient clear headroom below treads 10 and 11.

Each and every spiral staircase and staircase we supply has it’s own story and is installed in it’s own unique setting.  This particular spiral staircase was supplied to a small domestic mezzanine deck in Chester.  What made this particular spiral special was that it didn’t have a top platform.  The top platform usually supplied as part of the spiral was actually part of the floor.  We therefore had to select one of our more bespoke spirals with the centre column constructed in one piece.  This centre column was then bolted directly to the edge of the floor with the top step being manufactured as a small ‘tread’ level with the floor with a steel plate underneath so that too could be bolted back against the floor joists.

The spiral staircase had 30mm oak treads to match the mezzanine flooring which were bolted to steel support arms which had been specially constructed to ensure the gap between the treads were less than 100mm.   The balustrade on the stair consisted of 10mm vertical spindles topped with a stainless steel handrail.  Balustrade around the mezzanine deck consisted of glass panels held in place with stainless steel baluster posts.

For a price – please contact us with a floor to floor height and diameter plus an idea of the type of treads you would like.

Shaftesbury, Wiltshire was the location of this lovely model 71 spiral staircase supplied for a refurbishment.  The spiral itself was accessing a loft area and was 1.5m in diameter, fitting snugly to a partly curved wall.  It had 40mm solid Oak treads, a 50mm diameter oak handrail (supplied in one piece) and brushed stainless steel spindle and centre column barrels.

The model 71 is probably our most popular domestic spiral staircase.  Being custom made, the rise / going / rotation / entry and exit point / material options are all selected for the specific customer.   In this particular instance we had to exit directly under the apex of the roof above to achieve maximum headroom upstairs.  At the same time we had to ensure the entry to the spiral staircase was away from the curved wall whilst providing sufficient clearance for headroom from the treads spiralling above.

For prices  – please let us have -

1-Your floor to floor height

2-The diameter required (generally 1400-1500mm for secondary domestic and 1800-2000mm for primary domestic)

3-The timber you would like.

The newel posts and handrail can also be in stainless steel if prefered and indeed all the steelwork can be powder coated to any RAL colour.

Supplied earlier this year, some great pictures of an external spiral staircase provided for a customer in Southampton.
Like all our larger external spirals, this one was custom made for the customer to their specific floor to floor height and requested diameter.
They also required a small balcony area at the top so we enlarged the top platform.
This particular model was made to suit a 3800mm floor to floor height which was met with 20 risers. The 1800mm diameter provided an 800mm clear tread width to comply with category B of the British standards. The top platform was 2000 x 2000mm and the deck and all the treads were constructed using our non slip perforated steel treads. All steelwork was fully galvanised.

To see a few more examples of this type of spiral in situ, please use the links below.

We can of course supply this model for commercial applications and it can be galvanised AND powder coated if desired.

Some stunning pictures of a bespoke spiral staircase supplied to a customer in Chichester.

This model has ‘chunky’ treads produced in walnut which box in the steel tread support.  Our customer opted for simply powder coated steel spindles and handrail which was continued around the opening upstairs.  Also supplied was a matching Walnut apron and Walnut floor rail for the landing balustrade.

This is a domestic spiral staircase providing access to one room.  It was 1600mm diameter and spanning a floor to floor height of 2560mm.

This spiral staircase is bespoke and therefore can be produced with any type of timber treads, the centre column can be powder coated any colour and the balustrade can be stainless steel instead.  Anything else – please ask!!!

As we have been neglecting our news section for a little while we have built up a back log of recently completed staircase pictures to display.  From now on we will try to put up at least one a week.

Starting with this model 71 spiral which was installed in Yorkshire at the end of last year.  The customer was renovating an annex and required access to a mezzanine level in the roof.  A spiral was the only real option  as the exit point upstairs had to be directly under the apex of the roof.

The diameter of this model was 1600mm and it was spanning a floor to floor height of just over 2600mm.  The model 71 spiral always has a stainless centre column and spindles and on this occasion our customer selected beechwood treads which were stained ‘walnut’ in the factory.  Along with the spiral, 4.5m of matching landing balustrade was supplied for installation across the front of the mezz deck.

The model 71 is a bespoke spiral staircase.  It is available in diameters up to 2.4m and can be manufactured with a variety of timber treads – Oak, Ash, Maple, Beech and Larch. The newel posts and handrail are either timber to match the treads or stainless steel (click to view picture of this option).

Some pictures we have just received from a model 76 supplied for a project in Maidstone, Kent.
Spiral staircase with acrylic treads and stainless steel balustrade creating a stunning centre piece with an open feel. The balustrade consists of several horizontal 10mm stainless bars which wrap around the circumference of the spiral emphasising the swoop of the flight.

Pictures here of our bespoke spiral staircase called the model 71.

This model was installed last month in Preston.  It has beech treads and a stainless steel centre column, handrail, newel posts and spindles.  The customer also purchased some matching landing balustrade across their opening at first floor level.  This particular model was designed to be the main stair in the house so was manufactured with a 1900mm diameter to get the required 800mm clear tread width.

This model is also available with oak / ash / birch treads and can also be manufactured with a timber handrail.
