A stunning bespoke timber staircase supplied to a customer in the New Forest – Lyndhurst to be precise. Our customer met us at the National Homebuilding show in Birmingham last year and was building his dream home. He required an open, light, bespoke timber staircase to create a real impression when entering the property whilst not dominating the view.

Together we went with the WF bespoke timber staircase which has floating tread on the internal side. Solid Oak treads and wall stringer were complimented with light brushed stainless steel spindles to the internal side and glass infill panels on the landing level. Our customer went with the curved internal handrail adding a real swoop as it twisted around.

The end result was striking, with the oak blending in with the surrounds and the open feel allowing light to pass through from the front of the property to the back.

The WF staircase is a bespoke timber staircase available in any hardwood and can be purchased as a straight flight staircase, a quarter turn staircase and a half turn staircase. It is one of our most popular designs and each flight is made to measure for the application. Please have a look at further examples below.

Oak Staircase pictures just in!!
25th February 2012

Floating style Oak staircase supplied for a new build in Lowestoft. Our WF design with solid timber treads with open risers and a stringer only located on the wall side. The internal side of the stair and the outer side of the first four treads are supported by the extra deep handrail which actually acts as a stringer.

This customer opted for the stunning curved internal handrail in this Oak staircase which looks fantastic.

From the picture above you can really get a feel for the open and light nature of the flight. Not what springs to mind when you think – solid oak staircase!!

The landing balustrade here we infilled with glass panels. We kept the same timber for the handrail and newel posts but went for the balustrade infill that allowed the the maximum passage of light – Glass panels!

For prices for your very own light and open Oak staircase in the WF style please let us know the floor to floor height, the shape of the stair you require (this one is a half turn) and the timber you would like (any hardwood). Give us a call on 01794 522444 or email info@completestairsystems.co.uk .

Have finally worked though the enquiries from the Grand Designs show but have been neglecting the blog posts. Here we go then –
  Â
This long standing customer of ours based in Shaftesbury, Wilts, was building a new property which required a new feature staircase. The requirement was for simple clean lines, a modern and open feel  and of course it had to fall within the allocated budget .

Our traditional structure stair was selected in beech parquet timber, with open risers and polished stainless steel spindles. Our Traditional structure certainly doesn’t mean traditional style as you can see in the pictures – it refers to the way the stair is supported, with two stringers either side.

Beech parquet is a very popular choice at present. With this option the timber is still solid beech but each block is made up of smaller pieces giving a more pronounced stripe effect.  It is about 15% cheaper than solid beech and is often requested to match a parquet floor.

Our ‘traditional’ structure stairs are available in a variety of configurations, designs and materials. Remember – traditional structure but modern design. Combining solid timber with open and light balustrade options.

Open timber staircase installed recently in our open WF style. This model was a little unique as it didnt form a conventional half turn. The bottom of the staircase was only angled around 45 degrees instead of 90 and the upper turn had a 45 degree angle shaped into the stringer – see the pics to see.
The treads, wall stringer on this open staircase were created in 42mm oak and the spindles were stainless steel. Our client went for a curved handrail at both turns to create a real swooping effect.

An open, modern WF Oak staircase in a half turn configuration.Â
With no internal stringer the WF always creates a floating feel as it ‘hangs’ from the handrail.
Supplied to a customer in Aberdeen this staircase had a swooping curving oak handrail – twisting and turning up the internal side. The white wall stringer made it blend in with the wall and further enhance the floating feel to the flight.Â
As the stair was in Scotland a wall handrail was also required. Matching landing balustrade was supplied around the opening at loft level.Â

Our WF Timber Staircase continues to be an extremely popular choice with our customer because of its open, floating feel whilst using solid timber. You can see some other examples using the links below.

I hope everyone had a great Xmas and new Year. We are all looking forward to an exciting 2011.
Thought we would get the new year kicked straight off with some pictures of a recently supplied model 500 in Hertfordshire.
The model supplied was a straight flight stair with glass balustrade to one side. Oak treads and steel stringers to both sides and stainless steel riser bars supplied to reduce the riser gap. We also supplied a small section of landing balustrade upstairs to protect the stairwell opening. Our customer are so happy with their stair it is available for viewing.

A couple of pics of a straight flight Oak stair supplied to a small property developer in Chesterfield. The pictures were taken just after installation with the flooring and surrounding area still to be finished.
This model was our traditional style timber staircase with glass balustrade to one side. The risers were open and the bottom step had a half bullnose tread. A great modern, functional alternative to a ‘boring’ boxed in staircase blocking the light and dominating a room.

Further examples of this type of staircase can be viewed below.

Some great pictures of a straight flight model 500 supplied to new build in Guildford.
This model had Oak treads with steel stepped stringers to either side. The risers were fully closed with toughened glass infill panels and a floating, frameless glass balustrade was fitted to one side.
The result was a truly open, stunning staircase which enhanced the property and enticed people upstairs.Â
This laminated glass balustrade design is becoming very popular and we will have some more pictures to post soon of similar models. This stair can be purchase in a quarter turn, half turn or straight flight and the frameless balustrade can also be supplied for landing levels.

Here are some other model 500 systems we have supplied around the country.Â

Some pictures of our ever popular WF timber staircase installed near us in Southampton. Being a local job and such a stunning design we got Romsey Fotografix in to take a couple of professional shots.  We obviously have a number of pics but have only displayed a few here – please call if you would like to see some more.
The stair itself is an OAK WF Staircase – in this case witha white wall stringer and an internal curved handrail. To comply with the 100mm gap rule, the customer opted for the L shaped tread option giving the appearance of an extra thick tread when ascending.  This gives the treads a chunky look whilst keeping the open risers. The white stringer certainly emphasises the floating feel to the staircase as it appears the treads are hanging from the wall.
