Staircases with glass treads create stunning light and transparent solutions and are becoming increasingly more popular..  To date we have doubled the sales of our glass tread stairs during the calendar year compared with 2011 –a great product but we always get the same question…………….Are the treads slippery?

Well, compared with a normal carpeted stair the answer is yes, they are more slippery– especially if you are charging down them in socks -but certainly not as bad as some think. The shiny look of the treads often leads people to thinking the surface is very slick and therefore slippery – which it isn’t. I have been up and down many glass treads stairs over the years and genuinely have never had a problem.

However the reason for this post is to address this question and show a few non slip options for the glass treads. These are available on all the glass treads staircases we supply and all differ slightly in the design. All however involve some treatment to the glass, sandblasting and or etching either part or all of a tread. This creates an abrasive, slightly uneven area reducing the physical risk of slippage as well as forming a visual deterrent.
Any questions about the glass treads or indeed the treatments – please get in touch.

Glass spiral staircase – pictures of a model 76 supplied last year to a customer in Jersey. Always makes a stunning visual impact with the glass treads cantilevering from the brushed stainless steel centre column. On this occasion (to comply with UK regulations) our customer opted for 10mm diameter vertical stainless spindles for his model 76 glass spiral staircase.

It is the most open and light spiral staircase we offer. Being bespoke, the model 76 glass spiral staircase can be manufactured up to 2200mm diameter and up to 3600mm in height. The going (depth of each tread) and riser height is custom made for each model supplied and additional landing balustrade can be supplied – as in this instance.

Worried about privacy? This has certainly come up a few times and we simply tint / colour or sandblast the treads. Worried about slipping? Another common question and again sandblasting the top of the glass will produce a non slip effect.

For prices – please let us know the floor to floor height and diameter. You can also mode examples of the model 76 glass spiral staircase on the links below.

Some pictures of our stunning model 76 spiral staircase supplied to a customer in our home town of Romsey.
This model has solid Acrylic treads with a brushed stainless steel central column and along with the curved acrylic panels gives the spiral and room a really light and open feel.Â

To ensure the spiral met building regulations we included small riser bars which ran horizontally between the treads so the gap we not more than 100mm.Â

The model 76 spiral staircase can be supplied in laminated glass or acrylic treads with balustrade consisiting of vertical spindles, horizontal stainless steel bars or indeed the curved acrylic panels you see on this model.
To work out a price all we need is the diameter of the spiral and the floor to floor height. Plus an indication of the type of balustrade you would prefer and the treads you would like.
You can see further examples of the model 76 spiral staircase below.
